I am just curious who here uses a commercial truck cap on a pickup truck? How do you like it?

Due to some circumstances due to grumpy neighbors, hoa and needing to tow a trailer in the future I may unfortunately have to move to a truck :(

I have a hearing next month to see if I can keep my van on my property otherwise I'm going to have to figure out something else :/

You can't have a van at the house you own? I would shit on everyone's doorstep that is a member of the HOA.

I'm not sure where you live but unless it's some rare circumstance, I would be getting a lawyer. And talking with him about a counter suite.

Picture coming in a minute of my truck with cap - got to run outside and snap it. warning: it's dirty right now.

When it was new, there was always a problem with a little bit of leaks during heavy rains. A bigger problem was when I opened the access windows, water would drip in.
Many, many years later (have had it over 16 years now - bought it used) - it leaks pretty bad around the edges and seals. The Rhino liner is still great however - and so is the truck. 320K miles and runs perfect - regular maintenance and a new radiator, ignition coils, is all I have every had to do to it.

So I would say getting the place you buy the camper shell from, to give you a no leak warranty, is very important. See if you can get it to cover any little bit of water at all. Most places I went to back then, wouldn't do that.

Tell your grumpy neighbors to get a hobby aside from exercising their grumpiness. I sure would not give in.

What the issue? Commercial (wrapped) vehicles not allowed in the driveway or basically anywhere not enclosed?

Those rules got started because of guys who would have 15 taxis parked in their driveway and every available space in front of their home. Or a contractor who would have every one of his trucks parked in the front.

You know those magnet sheets that people use to make their car look like a company car? You should get that stuff cut out to cover the entire van and put it on every night covering the wrap :D

I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

You didn't bother to read the restrictive covenant before buying? Or did your realtor fail to inform you of the restrictions? You are SOL unless you can find an existing case of someone having a variance or violating the restriction without enforcement.

This is actually a common restriction in many neighborhoods and cities, especially in Florida.

It's a plain white van. No signage, no ladder racks. I told him to get a wheel chair lift installed. Use it for racks. But if they try to expel a handicap support vehicle they are in for some shit.

I met a GC in Miami that ran into a problem because he bought an F350 duely. No business signs, no trailers, no toolboxes. He had to convert it to single wheels and replace all F350 badging with F250 badging. Nothing more irritating than a POA Nazi.

Any ordinances that say you can't install 65 outdoor subwoofers and play the system 18 hours a day?

I have two trucks with caps and two vans. Both have their pros and cons, but it is nice to be able to grab parts from the side bins without having to crawl into a van or truck bed.

This is an older photo, but its a closer up shot of the truck cap. Looking at the gray truck. We don't have the white one anymore.

If a plain white van is not allowed, a truck with this type of cap may not be allowed either. Brendon, if you have to buy a new vehicle, check the rules carefully before picking something out.

its BS, but HOAs are there for a reason. I have had this conversation several times with my inlaws. you should have read the agreement.

but, can you hire yourself to install your a/v equipment? This gives you a reason to have your van/tools with you. i couldn't imagine it would take 10 years, but some jobs just take a long time to complete.
